Acknowledgments
This brief history of the Church was first written in a shorter form in 1936 at the request of Dr. Franklin L. West, Church Commissioner of Education, and has since been used as a text in the seminaries and schools of the Church.
The plan of the text and the textual material, was first submitted to a committee composed of George S. Tanner, Director of the L. D. S. Institute of Religion at Moscow, Idaho, Dr. Thomas L. Romney, Director of the L. D. S. Institute of Religion at Logan, Utah, Dr. Milton R. Hunter, then seminary instructor, Provo, Utah, and Lester M. Norberg, Principal of the Seminary at Coalville, Utah. Grateful acknowledgment is here given for their many helpful suggestions and constructive criticisms.
Splendid contributions were made by Newel K. Young, Merrill D. Clayson, Eleanor C. Berrett, and James H. Wallis.
The entire manuscript in both the original and revised form was carefully read by Joseph Fielding Smith, Charles A. Callis, and Joseph F. Merrill of the Council of Twelve. Appreciation is herein expressed for their many helpful suggestions.
The fourth edition of this book appeared in 1944 as a greatly revised and enlarged publication of previous editions. Some of the material appearing in earlier editions of the Restored Church was deleted and to the book was added a considerable section dealing specifically with the doctrines of the Church. This later material formerly appeared in a work by the same author, Doctrines of the Restored Church. For their helpful suggestions for this revision acknowledgment must be added to Dr. M. Lynn Bennion, Dr. Lowell L. Bennion, T. Edgar Lyon, Dr. Vernon F. Larsen, Dr. Marion G. Merkley, George Ensign, LeRoi Groberg, Merrill D. Clayson, and A. William Lund.
