About This Book

The words of George Albert Smith, eighth President of the Church, testify of his loving concern for humankind and his fervent conviction of the gospel's truthfulness. This compilation of his teachings reflects the depth of his testimony and the breadth of his experience as an Apostle for forty-two years and President for six.

All of the messages contained herein continue to have relevance today. President Smith counseled the Saints to uphold the government and to sustain the law, and he urged them to spread the gospel's message of love and peace throughout the world. He spoke of the signs and conditions of the Second Coming. As President during the years immediately following World War II, he instilled hope in the hearts of his listeners. He also addressed such fundamental topics as the nature of God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ, the plan of salvation, the divine family unit, the blessings and responsibility of the priesthood, and the importance of modern revelation. He encouraged Church members to honor the names that they bore, and gave a well-known account, included here, of a dream in which his grandfather, George A. Smith, said to him, "I would like to know what you have done with my name."

Also included in this book are President Smith's accounts of an experience when, as a missionary, he almost lost his life at the hands of a frenzied mob, and when he was prevented from falling over the edge of a deep precipice while traveling at night.

George Albert Smith's words resonate with his deep faith in Jesus Christ and his desire for the betterment of all mankind. This book will prove to be an invaluable means for clarifying essential doctrines of the gospel s well as for strengthening readers' own testimonies.
